A trio of winners from the Graeme and Debbie Rogerson stable at Te Rapa on Saturday might ensure the Rogerson-owned stallion Duelled is staying put.
Placed in both the VRC Derby and the Spring Champion Stakes, Duelled has been standing at Rogerson’s Dormello Stud, near Hamilton, since retiring from the racetrack.
The son of Redoute’s Choice is the sire of Rogerson’s impressive two-year-old winner Malambo, in addition to four-time winner Prodigal Son, who was successful in Benchmark 65 grade.
“I was going to sell Duelled, but I think I will keep him now. He owes me nothing,” Rogerson said. “He can leave a two-year-old, he’s had a Queensland Derby winner in Shootoff, through to successful jumpers, so he is very versatile.
“Malambo is a quality two-year-old and she will head toward the Ryder Stakes and we will look at the 1000 Guineas in the spring.”
The veteran trainer also revealed that his grand-daughter Bailey Rogerson had applied for a trainers’ license for the forthcoming season with a view to joining the Team Rogerson partnership.
“She’s applied, but she’s only 16 so we will see what happens now,” Rogerson said. “She races horses, she trains them and she’s really part of our place. It’s a real team effort.” - NZ Racing Desk
